In an event arranged for its dealers, customers and end-users, Microtech Gefell GmbH recently held an educational workshop named the Gefell Workshop 2012 at the Vogtland hall in Greiz, Germany. The event was deemed a success, and was attended by over 100 people.

The two-day workshop was broken down into sections comprising: ‘Live sound and Installation’, ‘Studio and Recording’, and ‘Test and Measurement’. A further presentation covered the installation of a reverberation enhancement system.
Guest speakers included audio communication specialist Dr Stefan Weinzierl, TU Berlin, and Klaus Haarer, Bühnenplanung Walter Kottke Ing GmbH – who took attendees though the electro-acoustic system of a concert hall. A further segment was led by Isabelle Schmich, CSTP France, who talked guests through ‘Electro-acoustic Systems: Principle and installation of the reverberation enhancement system for Carmen’.

Harald du Bellier, Line Veranstaltungstechnik, led the ‘Band Sound Check’ section – the last of the first day. During the workshop, participants were treated to a soundcheck by a rock and roll band utilising Gefell microphones. In the field of measurement the sales manager of the company informed about electro acoustic principles and applications of measurement microphones.

A highlight of the second day was a demonstration on how to mic an orchestra for a live sound event, demonstrated by the Vogtland Philharmonie Greiz orchestra. This was led under the direction of sound engineer Ralph LaRocco, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Christian Komp, AES section Graz. The workshop demonstrated how you can create excellent live sound and recordings with Gefell microphones depending on the room situation.
